When it comes to writing, I am having a constant battle. Do I use a
notebook and pen or my iPad for writing? I love both and sometimes it's so hard to decide what I want to use that I end
up achieving nothing! I have always loved gadgets and tech. Taking digital notes on an iPad with the Apple Pencil means I
can have everything in one place and access to any pen or colour I want without taking an entire case of pens around with
me. I can call up any bit of writing or notes on any project. What’s not to love? However, no matter how advanced it
gets, it’s never the same as the feel of a pen whether it’s a ballpoint, rollerball, fibre-tip or fountain pen
on actual paper. A note can be jotted down in seconds before a thought is lost. Using paper is easier on the eyes even though
you can get e-ink tablets now. The thought process comes more naturally when I outline my ideas on paper and I can brainstorm
as messily as I want before starting to see something take shape. I can write faster as well even though I am a quick typist.
Of course, typing up a story or novel from scratch is going to get the job done sooner which is always one of the arguments
I have in my head for not using paper and pen. There are a few famous authors who do hand write their first drafts as they
can edit as they type it up and I have tried this with a novel - I wrote a lot of chapters by hand then typed them up afterwards
which wasn’t a bad thing and you get a certain satisfaction from seeing filled notebooks. It also gives me an excuse
to buy more notebooks - something I can’t usually resist. The only problem being that you then have to carry around
all your notes as well. That’s where my phone comes in - I have it all on there so it’s always to hand. Sometimes
all I want to carry is my phone - I can happily write on it with the on screen keyboard or pair a physical bluetooth keyboard
for writing on the go. I'm not sure I'll ever work out the best way. I think there is a danger we might lose the art
of hand writing for good some day - a hand written letter is so much more personal than an email or text message. Technology
is great - when it's working! After all, if your computer breaks down, then back to paper and pen it is. I'm not sure
I'll ever solve my dilemma but whatever happens, all I need to do is get writing so I can upload more content to my site!
For now though, the battle rages on!
